Earlier this week, I mentioned I had started a little project to surprise my mother.
To cut out the pieces for the applique, I "eyeballed" the block with lemons from the Simply Delicious quilt that I am working on. This is similar, but not quite the same design from the quilt, and on a smaller scale. Piece O' Cake has recently re-issued this classic pattern on their website.
Do you have any idea the name of the company that produced the marbleized fabric? I REALLY love that fabric, and I would like to buy a number of yards of it.
This "Thing for My Mother" has given me an opportunity to practicing my new Hand Quilting skills. I used a small scrap of very thin batting behind the applique, so these stitches were easier to make than my first hand quilting stitches!
Betty was a great teacher! Later this summer, I hope to take a trip to her studio near Louisville, Mississippi. I'll be sure to take a camera so that you readers can meet her. She is a delight!
Have I mentioned that you don't have to currently live IN Mississippi to be a member of the Mississippi Quilt Association? Nor do you have to be a member of the Mississippi Quilt Association to join their email discussion group!
I know, I know.....I should be sleeping at 4:36 a.m.....I would be sewing if I had a private little sewing room. Creative juices are flowing, and the moon is full right now! That should be a scary combination! HA!
