I had so much fun with the regular round yo-yo's, and it came to me to try a heart-shaped yo-yo. Heart yo-yo garlands; heart yo-yo pins; heart yo-yo hair embellishments; heart yo-yo dog collar embellishments; hearts to hang and just dance in the light.
A couple of trial heart shapes, and I had the shape that gave me the outcome I wanted.
I've searched a bit for any other heart yo-yo's or gathered hearts, but I have not found any yet. It is a theory of mine that very little in this life is truly original. Design, whether mechanical or decorative, is always built on the work of others....aways inspired by the creativity of others. So somewhere in my 44 years, I have seen something gathered into a heart shape that led to this heart yo-yo.
The pattern I drew is ready to scan and upoad to share with everyone, but it will be tomorrow before the scanner takes a break from its vintage slide scanning project and I can sneak in this one little pattern.
I'll also photograph a couple of little tricks that will make your heart yo-yo the best!
The vintage canister of old wooden bobbins? They have been collected from my grandmother's house (that we are S-L-O-W-L-Y renovating).
A search for a scrap of zig-zag for a dog collar slipcover a couple of weeks ago led to a big project of sorting and washing all of Grandma's fabric scraps and sorting and organizing all of her notions.
It has been a fabulous adventure, going through boxes and bags of stored notions and vintage scraps, and this is only the beginning of the journey of discovery. Lots of marvelous little treasures to share with you in the weeks ahead.
My Super Geek Husband reformated my laptop tonight to make it purr like a kitten again. He has not re-installed my Photoshop CS2, so I can't edit any more of the photos I took to go with this topic. More photos and that free pattern tomorrow.
So somewhere in my 44 years, I have seen something gathered into a heart shape that led to this heart yo-yo.

I've posted the link on my blog. :-)

Tracy, that is cool. See what I mean about ideas coming from the work someone else has done before? Please share the link to Clover's yoyo tutorial. Heather Bailey has an excellent yoyo tutorial on her blog. That link is on the right side of my blog page.
I will be posting the pattern later tonight, I promise! If the heart is shaped differently, the heart yo-yo looks deformed. There is also a little "secret" stitch I want to show that makes the "humps" of the heart look extra nice.
Hubby and I have been running full tilt today, and I have not had the heart to ask him to interrupt his project of scanning in high resolution some archive slides for Rosalie Mansion in Natchez.
Good luck with your exams! When you make your heart yoyo's, I would love to see them!

Such heart-shaped yoyo ideas have stuck in my head since I saw the tutorial from clover a while ago. I was too busy with exams to carry it out. It was quite a coincidence that I found your pictures in flickr group. It's really great to see you tried it out. The shapes are just right. Congratulations! :-)
